The Second Asia-Pacific IHY School will be held at Center for Space
Science and Applied Research (CSSAR),Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS),
Beijing, China, Oct. 20-Oct.
31, 2008. This IHY school is opened to students and
to researchers from Asia-Pacific and abroad, and we expect about 60~70
attendees, from which about 40 students. The purpose of the school is to bring a greater understanding of the underlying universal processes and
to promote the international collaboration and exchange ideas and views
in heliophysical studies.
This two-week
autumn school, focuses on a broad range of extended
heliophysics, such as solar physics, heliospheric physics, geospace
physics and space weather, related to the IHY science topic
areas. The structure of school consists of about 50 lectures, as well as
a series of lab exercises and observatory visits.
The International
Heliophysical Year (IHY) is an international program of scientific
collaboration planned for 2007 to celebrate the International
Geophysical Year (IGY). The
objectives of IHY are to provide benchmark measurements of the response
of the magnetosphere, ionosphere, lower atmosphere and Earth surface to
identify global processes and drivers, globally study the Sun-heliosphere
system outward to the heliopause, foster international scientific
cooperation and education in the study of heliophysical phenomena, and
communicate the results to the scientific community and the general
public. The IHY's focus on developing new and exciting Education and
Public Outreach (EPO) programs provides unique opportunities for the
global community to increase the visibility and accessibility of
heliophysics outreach programs. To address these goals, the IHY has
formed the IHY Schools Program to develop a series of schools in 2007
and 2008 with the purpose of educating students about Universal
Processes and providing them with an opportunity to view their own
research interests in a new context.
